Sunkissed Women

Gallery Artists Cheryl Moody, Jeanne Chinnis and Susan Covert will be featured in a three woman show titled: Sun Kissed Women. The show will begin with a reception for the artists, including live music, food and drinks from 6:00
to 9:00 pm Friday January 5th.

These three artists, each in their own way, examine Florida away from the tourist crowded beaches and high rise condos. Each portrays Florida from a woman's perspective, exploring the laid back relaxation of the hidden places, the calming waters, arching palms, country farms of the interior, and smaller boats and fishing shacks of the coastline.

Cheryl Moody was born and raised on the riverbanks and beaches of the Manatee River and the Gulf of Mexico. Her Florida upbringing and travels to tropical climates have instilled in her paintings a sense of spontaneity and a warm, colorful palette. The emphasis on painting on location challenges her to capture a fleeting, changing moment in time and place in an image of colors and shapes.

A many-detoured graduate of Florida State University, she has continued her studies both locally at the art centers of Manatee and Longboat Key and the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, and also at the National Academy School of Art in New York City.

Jeanne Chinnis was born in Wilmington, North Carolina where she developed an avid interest in drawing, painting, and sculpture. After studying Fine Art and Interior Design at the Ringling School of Art and the new York School of Interior Design, Jeanne continued her studies in locales such as San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, at the Institute Allende, and the National Academy School of Art in New York City with Wolf Kahn.

Jeanne produces dynamic studies in line and color that depict the emotional appeal of nature. Her beautifully designed landscapes and still lifes represent the graphic appeal of her subjects through the use of chromatic color, flattened planes and strong outlines.

Susan Covert received her BFA from Washington University School of Art, St. Louis, Missouri. An illustrator for 30 years, her drawings and watercolors have appeared in many corporate and editorial publications. She has illustrated several children's books and taught in the Penfield and Victor School Districts in the Rochester, NY area. She has been the courtroom illustrator for WHEC TV 10, the NBC affiliate in Rochester.

Inspiration in childhood came from the wonderfully bright illuminated neon signs against the dark St. Louis sky line. Treks through her grandmother's flower garden in Memphis, Tennessee added to her interest in color, shapes and forms. From her youth she recorded natures changing scenes in her many sketchbooks, a discipline she continues today.

Her current work is a return to her classical training in oil painting and drawing. She has attended classes and workshops conducted by Tom Insalaca, Thomas Buechner, Stephen Assael, Charles Reid and recently Clayton J Beck. In June of 2000 she studied painting and drawing at the Santa Reparata Graphic Arts Studio, Florence, Italy.
