Dominic Avant
Dominic Avant received a Bachelors of Fine Arts at Rhode Island School of Design in 1991. After leaving school he worked as a free-lance illustrator and teacher. In 1996 he was recruited by Walt Disney Feature Animation where he worked on feature films such as Mulan, Tarzan, Emperor's New Groove, Lilo & Stitch, Brother Bear and numerous shorts. It was this creative community to which he pays credit for jump starting his career as a painter. While having a deep interest in the visual development of film production, after being introduced to plein air painting Dominic found the desire to better himself as an artist. His tenacious approach towards painting quickly grew into gallery exposure. Since 2003 and the closing of Disney's Orlando studio he has shown nationally with Oil Painters of America, Arts for the Parks, and numerous galleries around the country. He will also be featured in the Artist Magazine in June 2007.
Dominic is presently teaching traditional animation and concept art at Ringling College
of Art and Design.
